Birth Certificate Will Not Show Virgin Birth!!

cross-posted at clintonistasforobama

coyotebytes

This would be hilarious if it were not so sad. Hillary supporters have joined the GOP-backed madness swirling around Barack Obama's birth certificate. In their zeal to defeat Barack Obama Hillary supporters have become the latest dupes in a GOP rumor mill discrediting Barack Obama's birthplace--thus making him ineligible to be President.

According to the Online Journal, GOP dirty tricks operatives visited Kenya to dig up any useful "dirt" on Barack Obama, Jr., and his late Kenyan father Barack Obama, Sr. And now they say there is a "smoking gun." About Obama's birth certificate.

Oooooooh. Sounds ominous doesn't it??

Get a grip folks! What they found is a birth certificate from the Kenyan city of Mombasa registering the birth of Barack Obama, Jr., on August 4, 1961. However, the registration is a common practice in African countries whose citizens abroad have families with foreign nationals.

Obama was born in Honolulu, Hawaii, to his Ann Dunham of Wichita, Kansas, and Barack Obama, Sr., of Nyangoma-Kogelo, Kenya. Obama's parents were enrolled at the University of Hawaii. They divorced when Barack Obama was two years old.

Is it possible the GOP hopes to make the claim that Senator Obama is not eligible to become President of the United States because he was born in a foreign country, or, at the very least, plant the seed in the voters' minds that Obama is a foreigner even if the charge is false?

Of course, it is possible. And the fact that the state of Hawaii does not open birth records to the public has only fueled it. But what seems most deplorable to me is that in this latest effort to smear the presumptive Democratic Party nominee Hillary supporters are latching onto an obvious Republican smear.

Here's a little snarky take on the whole deal:

Top Ten Reasons Obama Won't Release His Birth Certificate

10. Despite the claims of his supporters, it was not technically a virgin birth.

9. Full name is Ayatollah Mubarack Hussein Obama-Khomeni bin Laden.

8. Actual birth date would reveal he's a Virgo, and those people are %#&*@! CRAZY.

7. Accidentally shredded it while going through his Rezko mortgage records.

6. Doesn't want NARAL to find out that his mom was pro-life.

5. Religion listed as "Muslim. Er, I mean Christian, yeah, that's the ticket! Christian!"

4. "You show the reporters the birth certificate, then they want to see the baby pictures, and after oohing and aahing for an hour, you're inviting them to stay for dinner, and... look, I've got a lot of stuff I need to get done, okay?"

3. Instead of being born at Leahi-Kai or Maluhia hospital, his mom picked Kokua Kalihi, and that place is just so ghetto.

2. His real father? Little Richard.

1. Can't he just eat his waffle?

There are several that deal with children born to one US citizen and one non-citizen outside of the country. So either he is born in Hawaii and he is a citizen or since his mom lived in the US for the time periods specified prior to birth, thus by jus sanguinis he'd be a citizen. Either way he is a US citizen and eligible. What slimy POS's.

Re: double thanks, linfar (none / 0)

That's interesting -- I just learned something --

Essentially, this is someone who is naturally born (vs. adopted) as a US Citizen at birth.

It's an interesting argument. If Obama were born in Kenya (highly doubtful), it would be a simple argument to make that at his natural birth he was a US Citizen anyway, because of his mother.

Since it's never come up before, it would be a constitutional question -- one that would only be able to be resolved with some serious educating of the public. There is not enough ambiguity IMHO to worry about him actually being ineligible, though I don't relish the possibility of having to spend more time "educating" as opposed to discussing real issues that matter to people.

Re: double thanks, linfar (none / 0)

Apparently there is a little more to this... According to the NY Times, the law was different when Obama was born.

My bet is that there is either something with his parents not really being married, or his mom DID actually name him Barry OR his mom used her name. Not sure... but he may want to head this off and fast.

Barry (none / 0)

I don't get the whole Barry thing. I understand conservatives like to use it and Obamans like to correct whenever it's used. If it really were his legal name, however, so what? Is Barry considered a less electable name than Barack? Would Obama somehow be considered deceptive and untrustworthy if he chose to go by his father's name at some point in life? I don't get it.

It was his grandmother who started calling him by his nickname Barry, and she still does. On his Birth Certificate his name is Barack Hussein Obama.

In addition, he is not a Virgo (at stated in diary), he's a Leo. He was born on August 4, 1961 in HI.

Re: double thanks, linfar (none / 0)

It's actually not entirely clear what "natural born citizen" means. It could mean citizen at birth, or it could mean constitutionally entitled to citizenship (children born abroad are citizens by act of Congress)--McCain actually has the same issue, since he was born in the Panama Canal Zone. Practically speaking though, it's a political question, so a natural born citizen is whoever wins the election.

The difference with McCain is that he was (none / 0)

born on a US military base = same as US embassy = USA!

My stepbrother has dual citizenship US/Canada. Our father is American, his mother is Canadian therefore held dual citizenship but by law had to choose when turning 21 - that was back in the 70's so I don't know if it still applies.

I've lived all over the world and I have never (none / 0)

heard of a country issuing a birth certificate because of your parent's citizenship if you were born elsewhere. You do get however, a certificate of citizenship but not a birth certificate! You cannot have two different birth certificates from two different countries.

I'm married to a british citizen and as a result, Britain has issued me a "certificate of patriality" which allows me to travel and work anywhere in the European Union. Kenya being a former British Crown Colony might have issued him the same document and whomever is peddling this probably made a mistake by associating patriality with birth certificate.

Re: The difference with McCain is that he was (none / 0)

McCain's argument is much stronger than just being born on a military base. He was born in the Panama Canal Zone, which was basically US territory at the time. It's similar to Barry Goldwater who was born in Arizona before it was a state or someone born in Puerto Rico today. Legally, I don't believe military bases are treated as US territory, unlike embassies. If he had been born on a US military base in a foreign country, he would have a serious constitutional problem.

Washington would have been eligible vis-a-vis the fact that he lived in the US at the time of its founding.

But I do believe being born to an American makes you a natural born citizen, regardless of where you are born, so long as you are not adopted at birth into citizenship.

Being born to US citizens makes you a naturalized citizen... vs someone foreign born to foreign parents who became a citizen (ala Schwarenegger) I have read that article before... In truth it has NEVER actually been challenged in court. That's a BIG gamble for a party to take challenging the citzenship... losing that could seriously hurt your chances.

Now that you are the "presumptive nominee" for the Democratic Party, it's important to unlock the file cabinet and disclose key documents that seem to be in hiding. It's best to make your life an open book now rather than get hammered by the GOP and 527s for secrecy in the coming months. They have already started, in case you haven't noticed.

Missing documents to be released ASAP should include:

How is this a bash diary? The core of the matter is not what any HRC person did, but the rumor the GOP is circulating. And that is what gets bashed.

That rumor makes little sense. Any American citizen couple who births a child while abroad has to register that child with the Embassy to protect its citizenship rights. The real question is what the Kenya filing says was the place of birth, if it says anything about that. Good catch!

I thought natural-born meant you had to be born here or in one of those external places on the list that we count as "here" like Panama.

Is there really a doubt he was born in HI?

Re: Wow (none / 0)

Seems to me the questions can be answered by the further question of whether he had a US passport at any point. Either when he was taken to Indonesia as a baby (at which point he might have been on his mother's passport), or when he went traveling to Pakistan. They don't give passports to noncitizens.

A filing in Kenya by his already gone father only means that to the extent he has rights of one kind or another in Kenya by reason of his father being Kenyan, their bureaucratic system requires registration at some point. This filing is probably to protect that, so he is not a foreigner there if the father and son ever reconciled, NOT a statement that he was born in Kenya. Dual citizenship requires parallel papers. I know.

My daughter in law is working on dual citizenship with Barbados, with two Bajan parents, but she was born in Brooklyn. If she is born here, she is a US citizen, period. It's the Bajan citizenship at issue. Only the born-here US citizenship is an issue for Obama and the passport should anwer that.

It never fails to amaze me, the weird tabloid-obsession of Obama hatred. It's the same fixation people had on Bill Clinton's personal life.

Hillary herself would DEFINITELY not approve of these smear efforts against Obama done in her name. It's time for all of us to recognize that if we want a Democratic President in 2009, we need to work our hardest to elect Obama this fall.

Nicely done. Thanks for posting, Linfar.

Then again, McCain was born in the Panama Canal Zone, so maybe Huckabee's supporters will try to get him thrown off the ballot, too. These are desperate times indeed.

However, the distinction and nuance can be lost on the uninformed. It's just as specious an argument.

Next time, I'll read through the comments. My thoughts were already repeated twice above.

Except that Obama campaign will not release his birth certificate and it is gaining traction. Some people think they will not release it because it will show Barry, not Barack, as given name. Whatever the reason, they should release it before this goes any further.

Hmm..surely a copy of his birth certificate exists somewhere. And surely he wouldn't be so stupid as to rename himself Barack and cover up the fact that he was born in Africa. I don't think either of these things could actually become a real issue for him. Seems very tin foil hat to me.

... cover up the fact that he was born in Africa. I don't think either of these things could actually become a real issue for him.

From my troll scoping, for someone born outside the US to be considered a natural-born citizen, the parent of record would have to have lived in the US for 10 years, 5 of those above age 16 (according to the law of the time). Obama's mother wasn't 21 yet, so she couldn't have fulfilled the second half of that criteria. As a result, he wouldn't be eligible for the Presidency.

Assuming, of course, this is at valid, which it isn't.

You're mistaken. Here is the law. Its a heck of a lot easier than that. At the very least (G) would pertain and says Mom had to live in the US at least 5 years in her life and two have to be after age 14.

Linfar, do you really want our nominee bending over to the GOP and the media.

If you look at my license my first name is Vassilios and my last name is Greek, and unspellable phoenticly.

My parent's immigrated here 4 years before my birth, My father who shares my first name as his middle and my middle as his first (greek tradition) and was forced(lets say coherced) into changing Vassilios to Basil because it wouldnt fit on a license or SSN card.
What kind of bullshit is that when our names are the same.
Thank god my father decided to keep my greek name when I was born.

Why am I rambling about this, because if I was president it is likely they would ask for my papers too.
